Design of Car Front fender Using NX-Cad

 Design of Car Front fender

Fenders/ Quarter Panel:-

Fender is a word derived from American English. An automobile fender is a rigid vehicle panel that houses the wheel well. It forms an arch that is designed to protect the wheel and prevent road debris such as rocks, sand, and mud from being thrown into the air by the spinning tire. A pair of front and rear fenders can be found on each side of a vehicle.

Aside from keeping your vehicle clean, car fenders protect vital components from minor collisions. They also help define the car's overall style and design. They provide classy contours that give your car a classy, edgy look, especially when your vehicle is viewed from the side. They also help improve your car's aerodynamics, so your car is not only cleaner but also faster.

In British English, the fender is called the wing (this may refer to either the front or rear fenders. However, in modern unibody vehicles, rear fenders may also be called quarter panels.) The equivalent component of a bicycle or motorcycle, or the "cycle wing" style of wing fitted to vintage cars, or over tires on lorries which is not integral with the bodywork, is called a mudguard in Britain, as it guards other road users – and in the case of a bicycle or motorcycle, the rider as well – from mud, and spray, thrown up by the wheels.

Fenders are of two types:-

  • Full Bumper Type
  • Half Bumper Type

Various provisions provided to the fender are listed and shown below:

  • Drip area
  •  Pillar mounting
  •  Bumper Mounting
  • Splash cover mounting
  • Sill mount region

Design Calculation of Section Modulus of Car Hood/Bonnet

MODULUS OF ELASTICITY: The ratio of stress to strain or the stiffness of the material of a structural member (resistance to deformation). Essentially, the modulus of elasticity is a more general term regarding the overall stiffness of a member. E= Modulus of Elasticity. If E increases, then the stiffness increases. MOMENT OF INERTIA: There are two types of moment of inertia; mass moment of inertia and area moment of inertia. The moment of inertia of a Mass (I) Defined as the sum of the products of the mass (m) of each particle of the body the square of its perpendicular distance (r) from the axis is mathematically represented as I = mr² The mass distribution of a body of rotating particles from the axis of rotation is represented by the moment of inertia. The value of the moment of inertia is independent of the forces involved and depends only on the body geometry and position from the axis of rotation. The mass moment of inertia for rotation is analogous to ma...

Design of Car Hood using NX- Cad

Design of Car Hood      What is Hood and its design considerations: A Hood or Bonnet is a part of the automotive vehicle which gives the aesthetic look to the automobile and also helps as an enclosure to the various engine components and sensors and it is an airtight cover that protects the internal components. The bonnet system is an access panel to the engine compartment to enable maintenance of the power train, drive belts, batteries, fluid levels, and lamp units. It is fundamentally a reinforced skin panel with many safety and quality requirements.                                                             The design of the hood consists of the following parts: a) ...
